Electromagnets, Diodes, Generators, and Motors
Electromagnets are magnetic fields made by an electric current. Electromagnets are temporary magnets which means that they can be turned on and off. Benefits of using electromagnets is, you can turn it on and off because its a temporary magnet, saves energy, has strong force, strength can be controlled, and polarity can be reversed. Electromagnets are used in generators and motors. Generators use electromagnets to generate electricity when you turn the generator on it converts the mechanical energy to electrical energy which turns the device or light on. Motors use electromagnets when you turn a wheel or do another form or manual work and it turns the device or light on. Generators are used in homes like the AC that creates warm and cool air in your house. Motors are used in electric cars, the energy stored in the car's batteries is converted into the rotation of the wheels. Diodes are semiconductors that act like one-way valves. They allow the alternating current that runs through the wires in a home and turns it into direct current in devices. Diodes slow the current down. Diodes are used in devices such as phone chargers, televisions, and microwaves.
